Welcome
Hello. I am Val, mother to Jess who is a dependent autistic and blind adult with developmental disabilities. We live together and have a happy life. Jess and I vlog/blog, and have been guests on podcasts, all in the name of showing what life can be like when children grow up to become dependent adults that never leave home.
Goodpooch Badpooch™ is a sister site to our blog, Autistic Interpretations™, and is intended to be a continuation of our Autism and Special Needs life awareness and education. Our goal is to educate the world on how lucky we are to share a joyful life with a dependent autistic blind adult.
To know the history of how we got to this point in life, check out this page which has posts about Jessica’s history in chronological order: https://autisticinterpretations.com/jessicas-journey-to-transition/
GoodPooch BadPooch™ was founded in 2019 as an avenue to help support our Mission which is to help families gain insight and awareness of what everyday life experiences can be when living with a dependent autistic adult.
Why the name Goodpooch Badpooch?
The reason we created a second site is simple. I wanted a site that is universally labeled, rather than wrapped specifically in an autism or disability label. I want a place where a person simply goes to buy a shirt, and consequently are drawn in to learning more about our special needs world.
The idea for the name Goodpooch Badpooch evolved from one of Jessica’s favorite games with her dog. She would “tease” her pooch and would switch from “You’re a good pooch,” to “No, you’re a bad pooch.” Her game is all in fun and now goes way beyond simple banter. It helps break down barriers, fostering connections and opening lines of communication.
What is Good One, Bad One?
The game is simple really. You are a bad one and I am a good one. No, you say? You are not bad? I am bad? I think not. YOU are the bad one and I am the good one. Insert a giggle here.
